MACOSS Colloquium – Inclusive Education for all ‘Breaking Barriers- Building Bridges’

On February 20, 2024, the Mauritius Council of Social Service hosted a colloquium on inclusive education at 20 Orleans Street in Port Louis to celebrate the United Nations’ International Day of Education, which was designated in 2018.

Mr. Suraj Ray FCG, Chairperson of MACOSS, Professor (Dr.) Hemant Chittoo, Ph.D – University of Technology Mauritius, Mr. Deewakarsingh Authelsingh, Director of Special Education Needs Authority, Mrs. Oorvashi Naginlal Modi, Monitoring and Evaluation Manager, National Social Inclusion Foundation, Mr. Ashok Beeharry, Executive Committee Members of MACOSS, Honorary Officers of MACOSS, Representatives of Member Organizations, MACOSS Staff, and Some Volunteers, were all present for the event.

The Colloquium aimed to examine existing systems for inclusive education, identify current issues in the sector, and organized a panel discussion on inclusive education with key stakeholders to highlight the challenges and opportunities on the subject.

The event started at 10:00 a.m. and concluded at 12:30 p.m.

The discussion focused on the present state of inclusive education in Mauritius, including opinions, realities, and pressing challenges from various resource persons. Furthermore, it outlined future steps for addressing mounting concerns, such as viable solutions and action plans. Resource persons enforce problems and opportunities related to inclusive education in Mauritius.

During a Q&A session, participants and resource persons engaged in a rich and fruitful discussion about the issue.

The ceremony concluded with a distribution of refreshments to everyone.
