MACOSS celebrating the World Environment Day 2023

The World Environment Day is celebrated every year on the 5th of June. This year marks its 50th anniversary. The theme for 2023 focused on solutions to plastic pollution under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution.

To mark the World Environment Day 2023, the Council organized a “Colloquium” on Monday 5 June 2023 at its Office, 20 Orleans Street, Port Louis. The colloquium was chaired by Mr. Suraj Ray, Chairman of MACOSS in the presence of the Secretary, Executive Committee Members and staff of MACOSS. It was an opportunity for CSO leaders to express their views on climate change focusing also on a number of SDGs which are interrelated in addressing environmental degradation.

Suraj Ray, the Chairman placed human action at the heart of planet degradation and pollution. The importance of sustainable development was highlighted. CSO leaders were invited to take account of the many challenges and factors associated with pollution. According to the Chairman “pollution” was a direct consequence of “human actions” and it is not only on 5 June that humanity must focus on the environment and nature, but it’s a conscious daily activity. The Chairman invited all members and participants to take action to #beatplasticpollution. On the occasion, the Chairman of MACOSS and Committee members unveiled the 2023 World Environment Day billboard with a strong message “Arete Koze …Azir!”.
